The excellent people at UK Data Explorer have come up with a European word translator that will show you how a word is said throughout Europe. It’s great stuff: here’s what it does with the word “duck.”
It uses the Google translator to do this, and as with all such programs, there is no guarantee of accuracy, because language is complicated. If a word comes up without a translation, then the original English word is shown with a star, as with Slovenian in the example above. Hey Google, what’s up with that? Surely Slovenians have seen ducks and know how to talk about them.
